Vivid World should be on your radar when it releases in 2025, especially if you enjoy Roguelikes.
I received a demo key from the developers, but that didn’t change my opinion. I believe it stands out in this genre with its charming style and blend of different mechanics that I’m eager to talk about.
But first, let’s descend into the setting.
THE SETTING
You play as a school student who goes to sleep and, upon waking, finds herself in a strange world. She then meets a silly Grim Reaper who teaches her about the world she’s in and how she can use the power of Jewels and Gems to survive.
After conquering her first dungeon, she finds a lost soul and decides to help. This puts her in danger again, as she has to go through another dungeon.
After completing it, the story ends, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay of Vivid World is all about jewels, resource management, and dungeon crawling.
In each dungeon, you’ll find jewels that contain different types of Heroes, each serving a different role in battle. Despite being a demo, I was surprised by the number of Heroes available to build a party.
I tried dozens of combinations, but honestly, most of them were not optimal, as there are a lot of game mechanics to learn and understand.
However, you are not guaranteed to get the same Heroes in every run, as every loot and shop is randomized. Even if you’re trying to build a specific team, luck may not be on your side.
Your best option is to grab what you can while paying attention to the buffs and perks your party gets from adding specific Heroes. Moreover, don’t be afraid to stack Heroes, as collecting three of the same upgrades them into a more powerful unit.
COMBAT
While dungeon crawling, battles are inevitable, as there’s always a key to find, often guarded by a monster.
When engaging a foe, you’ll enter a battle where your units attack automatically. However, as the party leader, you have an important role.
Apart from Jewels, you can find and craft Gems to use in battle. These allow you to attack enemies directly, buff your party, or even heal your units.
I found this system fun and addictive, and I was always eager for the next battle. However, things can get tough.
YOU DIE, YOU LOSE
It took me a couple of tries to complete the demo because, as a Roguelike, this game is unforgiving. If you die, you’ll restart the dungeon and lose everything you acquired.
As you delve deeper, enemies get tougher, and the maps grow larger, which makes planning essential.
Every move consumes Player Health, and if it reaches zero, your party starts taking damage. Carefully planning your route becomes vital.
For tougher enemies, I found it helpful to prioritize a full party instead of spending everything on one powerful unit.
In the end, I enjoyed the gameplay mechanics, and I can’t wait to see them fully developed in the full release!
IS VIVID WORLD WORTH IT?
As mentioned, from what I’ve played in the demo, yes, it is.
It has an interesting blend of Roguelike elements, dungeon crawling, and hero collecting, making it appealing to a wide audience. It might be unforgiving, but with careful planning, you’ll be fine!
I’ll revisit Vivid World in 2025 and write a full review once it releases. For now, good luck to the developers, and thank you for the key!
Let me know if you need further adjustments!
