Should you buy a PS Vita in 2024? Rumours of a new handheld by Sony are brewing and I think it’s the right time for you to purchase a PS VITA if you haven’t already. I got mine in 2022 and despite not playing much on it due to prioritizing other new systems I bought, I still feel the urge to pick it up from time to time. And here’s why:
1. Portability and Convenience
This might be redundant but portability is always the best feature of any handheld. Especially those that still fit in your pocket, which is starting to become more difficult with the new generation.
The Vita’s compact design makes it an ideal choice for gaming on the go. I’ve brought it with me in some commutes or when I go on vacations. Allowing me to carry on my gaming adventures whenever I want.
Also, nothing beats playing on the couch comfortably.
2. Great library of games:
One thing that I truly miss from the golden age of handled gaming is the plethora of title exclusives that came along with unique features that couldn’t easily be replicated on other systems.
And such are the cases of Tearaway, Gravity Rush, and even Uncharted: The Golden Abyss. And not only that but there are a ton of third-party titles that are revered to this day, such as Persona 4 Golden, Shovel Knight, and even Final Fantasy X.
So if you’re looking for a great console with great games, the Vita has got you covered for hundreds of hours.
3. Online Funcionality

4. Affordability in the Secondhand Market
Right now I’d say the console is at a bargain price. When it was released it could cost you a whopping 350€! But, when I got mine in 2022 I got it for just 100€ with 6 games included.
Not all of them were great but the whole pack was more than worth it. However, there might be a price spike with the rumors of Sony’s new handheld. So this is the best time to get your hands on one without spending much.
5. Homebrew
And finally, the reason why you should buy a PS Vita these days is the amazing Homebrew community. Thanks to some great dedicated fans of this console you can unlock its full potential.
Other than the obvious you can also install some amazing plugins that will elevate your gaming experience. Want better screen colors? How about some turbo functionality? Wait, what about being able to build a Dock like a Nintendo Switch so you can play your Vita on the big screen?
There are a ton of possibilities and I admit that I’ve spent more than enough time exploring all different kinds of plugins. Just be careful with what you install and run. Too many plugins turned on might brick your system!
Conclusion
While the gaming landscape continues to evolve with new technologies and consoles, there’s something timeless about the PlayStation Vita.
Its amazing library, portability, and affordability in the secondhand market make it an interesting choice in 2024.
