I love fighting games, however, I don’t play them as much as I used to due to a simple fact: my arcade stick is loud, and my girlfriend hates it! Over the years, I’ve done my best to play as silently as I can, but let’s face it, it’s virtually impossible not to press the buttons too hard during a ranked match. I already replaced the stick with arrow keys, which make way less noise, but I’ve never done anything about the buttons until I had an idea when passing by an arts and crafts section in a shop the other day. So, here’s how to make your arcade stick quieter!
Step 1: Gathering the Materials
To get started, I needed a few supplies:
- Arcade stick (with noisy buttons)
- Foam sheets
- Scissors or box cutter
- Precision and patience
Step 2: Preparing the Foam Inserts
I first pressed an arcade button against the foam and pieces that would fit snugly inside each button. This was a critical step, as I wanted to ensure all buttons felt the same when pressed. Consistency is key to maintaining the gaming experience!
Step 3: Testing and Fine-Tuning
With the foam inserts in hand, it was time to place them inside each button. You can easily open an arcade button by pressing on both sides to pop the lid up.
When I began testing my arcade stick, it quickly became evident that adding too much foam could lead to issues with button responsiveness.
If you overdo it, you might have to press the buttons harder for inputs to register. This required some fine-tuning to strike the right balance.
Note: I didn’t have to remove any buttons, making testing a breeze. I simply popped them up, keeping the wires attached, and proceeded to open and test the buttons one by one. It’s worth noting that removing the buttons with the arcade stick still powered on can be risky. Be cautious if you choose to go that route!
Enjoy the silence?
Once I had all the buttons placed in just right, it was time to enjoy my newly quiet arcade stick. The difference was remarkable – no more loud clicking noises that annoyed my girlfriend during my gaming sessions.
So if you’re facing the same issue with a noisy arcade stick, don’t despair. With a little patience, precision, and some foam inserts, you can strike the perfect balance between silence and responsiveness.
Just don’t elude yourself thinking that you’ll be able to make the buttons completely silent with this method! It’s less clicky and noisy but if you press the buttons like a beast no amount of foam will dampen those presses.
Also, keep in mind that you are sacrificing the responsiveness of your buttons and it might take some time to get used to it. But in the I think that doing this was worth it for me! Hope you enjoyed this guide on How to make your Arcade Stick Quieter!
