The countdown to Starfield’s release is on, and while the excitement is palpable, there’s a small twist of disappointment for those who exclusively game on the Nintendo Switch. While I’m fortunate to own an Xbox Series S, I understand the sentiment of my dear Nintendo Switch comrades who are scouring the eShop in search of that perfect sci-fi RPG with a side of exploration. Having been in your shoes, I’m thrilled to share the results of my quest for games like Starfield on the Nintendo Switch. Here are 2 games that might just help satiate that cosmic curiosity.
StarLink: Battle For Atlas
Ready to embark on an intergalactic odyssey? Starlink: Battle for Atlas is your boarding pass to adventure. This game masterfully intertwines thrilling space combat with uncharted exploration.
This game comes with a gimmick though, you can attach toy spaceships and characters to your controller and bring them to life in-game. You’ll be able to level up them and experiment with a ton of fun variations. And, even if you can’t find the toys online you can always buy them digitally.
However, after the first few planets repetitiveness will settle in and you’ll feel like everything feels the same despite playing with different loadouts. So, don’t go overboard with these toys.
The Outer Worlds
I had to try this game after watching my brother speedrun it and nowadays you can get a physical copy really cheap for what the game has to offer.
For those of us who relish in thought-provoking narratives and impactful choices, The Outer Worlds is a must. This RPG introduces a meticulously crafted sci-fi universe, inviting you to immerse yourself wholly in its intricate design.
One of the standout strengths of the game lies in its development team, which boasts former members from Bethesda, the studio that is behind Starfield!
While there might be a few bumps in the road on the Switch, due to the console’s hardware capabilities the game’ compelling gameplay makes it a captivating experience for fans of the Sci-Fi RPG genre.
No Man's Sky
This game is a marvel and to this day I have no idea how they’ve managed to port it to the Nintendo Switch.
Are procedurally generated galaxies and boundless exploration your cup of tea? They certainly are for me. No Man’s Sky, once greeted with a ton of negativity over failed promises, has blossomed into a visually stunning and expansive realm of possibilities.
Roam diverse planets, extract valuable resources, and relish the thrill of uncovering the unknown in its ever-evolving universe. I confess I couldn’t help but marvel at the awe-inspiring sights around every corner.
However, just like Starlink: Battle for Atlas, you might find the game repetitive after. The difference is that it will take you longer to reach that point!
Conclusion
While these alternatives won’t erase your yearning for Starfield completely, they offer distinct cosmic odysseys that can be enjoyed right on your Nintendo Switch.
Whether you’re locking horns in captivating space battles, pondering choices with far-reaching consequences, or boldly stepping into the uncharted, the Nintendo Switch universe offers an inviting constellation of opportunities.
I really wish there were more options… However, if Starfield becomes a success we might see more games like it in the future on the Switch!
