Are you a fan of Tears of the Kingdom? If so, I have some great game recommendations for the Nintendo Switch that are just for you.
These games offer the freedom of exploration, engaging puzzle-solving mechanics, great lore, and breathtaking landscapes that we love from the latest Zelda open-world games:
Quick note: before we start, this list only has games that I’ve played myself!
1. Immortals Fenyx Rising: A Tears of the Kingdom-inspired Adventure
First, let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Immortals Fenyx Rising. Saying this game is inspired by Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom is an understatement.
It has open-world exploration, climbing, gliding, a stamina bar, puzzle solving, and similar combat and abilities. While it may not match the wonder of Tears of the Kingdon, I enjoyed my time with it, and you can find a detailed review I wrote a few years ago [link] to learn more about this game.
2. Sonic Frontiers: An Open-Zone Adventure
Sonic Frontiers is the latest installment in the Sonic franchise and introduces the concept of open-zone gameplay. You’ll be able to run at blasting speeds on five expansive islands reminiscent of the scenic landscapes found in Tears of the Kingdom.
Engage in epic boss fights and discover Cyber Levels inspired by Zelda’s shrines while collecting the seven Chaos Emeralds. Although the Switch version may have performance limitations, it still delivers a fun-filled experience.
3. The Pathless: A Thrilling Journey of Exploration
The Pathless offers a captivating world to explore, and I wouldn’t expect less from the creators of Abzu. While not nearly as vast as Tears of the Kingdom, it provides exhilarating gameplay with a focus on gaining speed and greater heights using your bow and arrow and gliding away with your trusty eagle, which you can pet!
You’ll love exploring this world, solving well-crafted puzzles, and beating challenging bosses. It’s without a doubt an experience that any Zelda fan will appreciate.
4. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity: Unveiling the Prequel Story
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is completely different from Tears of the Kingdom in terms of gameplay. But I feel like any fan should experience it to see the events that took place 100 years before the calamity struck, with a few surprises.
You’ll be given the chance to not only play as Link but also as various beloved characters from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, each with distinct play styles and mechanics. You can read my detailed review [

5. Dark Souls: An Unforgettable Journey of Discovery
I bet that you weren’t expecting Dark Souls, and neither was I. But it makes sense the more I think about it. Dark Souls offers a mesmerizing and mysterious dark world to explore.
As you uncover its secrets, your purpose in the game will start making more sense, and you’ll see how much beauty and care there is in this amazing twisted dimension. Similar to Tears of the Kingdom, Dark Souls rewards exploration with equipment, richly written lore, hidden bosses, and shortcuts.
The combat mechanics, such as locking onto enemies, wielding single or two-handed weapons (or even magic), shielding, and dodging, also bear resemblances to Zelda’s combat. It can be unforgiving and frustrating at times, but once you get the hang of it, you won’t be able to put it down!
Conclusion:
It’s difficult to find games on the Switch that are just like Tears of the Kingdom, but as you can see, whether you’re seeking open-world exploration, engaging puzzles, breathtaking landscapes, or even amazing lore, this list has you covered!
If you have any other games that are worthwhile, share them with me; I might make a new list in the future!
