Luckily, I came to my senses and ended up buying the better choice, the Nintendo Switch. And thanks to that I ended up playing dozens of amazing switch games over the years.
But, what about all the other games I was missing out on the PS Vita? Well after all these years, I finally got my hands on this amazing handheld that keeps thriving in 2022 thanks to a dedicated and passionate community.
Getting to this point, however, took a lot of time and effort since finding a Ps Vita for a price I was comfortable paying was rather difficult. After months of searching on websites like OLX and Vinted, I finally got a PS Vita in great condition, with six games included, for 99€!
I couldn’t care less about the games it came with but Rayman Legends entertained me enough while I didn’t get an SD card adapter.
And why would I need an SD card adapter? To do the thing that every Vita owner should do, jailbreak it. Doing it will allow you to fully unlock the potential of this handheld. Now, I have access to not just the PS Vita library, but also the PSP, PS1, N64, SNES, and many other systems.
Also, there are a ton of plugins that you can install to enhance your gaming experience. Like TurboPad, which enables any button to be pressed repetitively with a single click, a must-have for people like me that suffer from hand pain after a session of mashing buttons.
Or the plugin the plugin that let’s you play on a big screen using your Vita as a Controller, emulating the feel of the much successful Nintendo Switch. Just don’t expect it to run as smoothly!
But, do you actually need to jailbreak your Vita to enjoy it? Absolutely not. There are dozens of great games that will keep you entertained for hundreds of hours like Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden, Ys VIII, Digimon Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory, Killzone: Mercenary, etc…
However, be ready to spend some money if you want some of these physical! Also, believe it or not, there are still people playing games online like God Eater 2 or Call Of Duty Black Ops Declassified.
Just make sure that you don’t get a game whose online service has been shut down like I almost did with Soul Sacrifice: Delta!
So far I’m enjoying this console way more than I thought I would. And honestly, I think I’ve passed more time researching new plugins to take the most out of my PS Vita than playing actual video games.
Currently I’m researching on how to build my own Vita Dock to have a smoother experience while playing on the big screen. But honestly, I’m only doing just to see if I can do it, the Vita’s OLED screen is so beautiful that it’s actually a downgrade playing it on any other screen (I hope I eat my words in a couple of days).
And, should you get a PS Vita in 2022? Absolutely, just make sure you get the PS Vita OLED model, the screen really makes the difference! And if you jailbreak it you’ll have guaranteed hours of unlimited fun!
